Shoulder-Milling Cutter

Product Description

Shoulder milling is a basic milling application in which a tool simultaneously creates a plane and shoulder surface. Square shoulder mills have traditionally had a cutting edge angle of 90°. Having the exact right angle is important to avoid offsets between the individual milling paths.

Milling machines produce mainly flat surfaces by means of a rotating cutter with multiple cutting edges. The two main types of machine are the horizontal and the vertical spindle. Milling cutters usually have teeth cut on the periphery and/or on the end of a disk or cylinder.

The purpose of a milling cutter is to remove material from a workpiece. With that said, milling cutters don't consist of a single blade. While turning operations performed using a lathe generally feature a single-bladed cutting tool, milling cutters consist of multiple blades.
